Epsom is an English town in Surrey, within the London Commuter Belt. It is situated on the chalk downland of the Epsom Downs and is perhaps most famous for the Epsom Downs Racecourse, which hosts the Epsom Derby depicted in the famous painting by Théodore Géricault. The town's most notable landmark is the 70 foot high Epsom Clock Tower, which was built in 1847, to replace the 15th century watchhouse.
Epsom features a large and mostly pedestrianised high street and shopping mall, as well as a large multiplex Odeon cinema. There is also a very good selection of quality holiday accommodation that takes advantage of the town's excellent links to the country's capital as well as to the countless sites and attractions of the South East as a whole.
