Hook is a large village in Hampshire, England, neighbouring Basingstoke. It was a very small settlement until it grew in response to the increasing need of travellers on route between London and Exeter. The village then grew as a coaching stage. The Industrial Revolution also brought an increased demand for housing in the area, to serve the larger towns and cities.
The village itself remains very traditional and quite "sleepy" for its size, having grown so quickly over recent years. It does have the basic amenities and a selection of traditional pubs, restaurants, and a choice of holiday accommodation, with the addition of direct rail links to both London Waterloo and Southampton, which offers much compensation, as well as a pleasant base from which to explore the English South-East. Odiham Castle is a popular attraction in the village, known as King John's Castle, it is the only octagonal keep in Britain and believed to be the location where the Magna Carta was signed.
