The market town of Otley in West Yorkshire is alongside the River Wharfe that journeys between West and North Yorkshire from its source at Camm Fell in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Otley has been settled since before Roman Times, developing as an important crossing point of the river during the early medieval period with its first church founded in the early 7th century; at the more recent All Saints Parish Church there are the remains of two early Anglo-Saxon crosses. Otley grew and prospered with the granting of its market charter in the early 13th century and continues to hold a regular market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with a Farmers' Market on the last Sunday of each month.
Otley offers plenty of good shopping, a choice of restaurants, eateries and pubs as well as a host of things to see, do and enjoy within this picturesque area of Wharfedale. With delightful walks along the river banks and visitor attractions, Otley attracts visitors throughout the year who come to explore places like the 700 acre Chevin Forest Park that is home to the quarry that the foundation stones for the Houses of Parliament were hewn. In September each year, the Otley Folk Festival attracts vast numbers of visitors as does the carnival in May and June and the beer festival every November.
