Thatcham is a town in Berkshire, England, neighbouring Newbury and the county town, Reading. It occupies a pretty and well-linked location on the River Kennet, as well as the Kennet and Avon Canal. This is an archaeologically significant location as there is good is evidence that the local area has been occupied since prehistoric times. It is listed by the Guinness Book of Records as the strongest candidate for the record of the oldest continuously inhabited place in Britain. The remains of a Mesolithic settlements used in circa 7,700 BC have been found nearby in a good state of preservation, as well as those of Bronze and Iron Age settlements and of a Roman town.
Popular attractions in the area include the Reading Museum, the Museum of English Rural Life, Legoland, Windsor Castle, Bispham Abbey, and the Berkshire Downs, to name just a few. The Nature Discovery Centre, at Thatcham Lake, is also a very popular local attraction.
