The suburban town of Brentwood lies on the outskirts of London in the county of Essex. Located near the River Thames, it is this prime location that led to the town's formation, as it was a place where pilgrims heading for Canterbury would rest. From a mere clearing in the middle of a dense forest, created by fire (thus the name) it grew into a small town and around 1221 the chapel was built and dedicated to the cult of St. Thomas the Martyr. Visitors will find the ruin today at the heart of the town.
Brentwood is a thriving, affluent town with a vast shopping centre, entertainment venues, parks and lovely open spaces, cultural activities and historic sites. Brentwood is surrounded by beautiful, open countryside and woodland, with attractive flora, fauna and wildlife and offering wonderful walks and activities.
