The resort town of Dawlish in the attractive county of Devon lies in a picturesque area between steep hills at the outlet of Dawlish Water. The town started as a small settlement reliant on fishing and salt, which was abundant in the rock pools here. The most significant and still evident growth in prosperity came during the Regency and Victorian eras. Along the seafront of Dawlish are buildings in the Regency and early Victorian style. The story of this town can be best explored at the Dawlish Museum with fascinating exhibits and displays.
Dawlish is a picturesque town on a lovely piece of coastline where the railway journeys along the entire seafront. Pretty cottages, attractive architecture and narrow streets with independent shops as well as a beautiful park with a brook, make Dawlish a place that inspired Charles Dickens. Visitors come to enjoy the wonderful walks along seafront, sample Devon Cream Teas, explore historic sites and nearby visitor attractions or to marvel at Dawlish’s famous Black Swans
