Lairg is a welcoming village in the county of Sutherland, in the Scottish Highlands. It is a relatively small village, though large for the Highlands, particularly as it is situated further away from the coast, at the south-eastern end of Loch Shin. The loch is the largest in the county, is surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery and drains into the Dornoch Firth, which is a popular bird-watching site.
The village offers an excellent base from which to explore the sites and beauty of the Scottish Highlands, with rail connection by the Far North Line, a good choice of holiday accommodation, and several pubs and restaurants to choose from. Sutherland as a whole is known for its immaculate beaches, rich heritage, and wildlife, as well as for the striking views that bring thousands of visitors to the area each year.
Attractions in the area include Laidhay Croft Museum, Dunrobin Castle, the Hugh Miller Museum and Birthplace Cottage, and Elgin Cathedral.
