Leyburn is a bustling English market town on the bank of the River Ure in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. The name of the town is derived from the Anglo-Saxon term for a "clearing by the stream".
The Wensleydale region is known for the Semer Water lake, which is a high moorland lake popular for boating, water-skiing and fishing. Leyburn and neighbouring Hawes, are popular destinations among visitors for the many scenic walks in the area and due to their fascinating histories, convenient location and facilities, which include several pubs, shops, tearooms, and hotels.
Leyburn itself boasts two markets, several traditional family-friendly pubs, two banks, and a number of shops. There is a regular bus service between Leyburn, Hawes, Bedale and Richmond, which is named after King Richard III who grew up in Middleham Castle. The ruins of the castle are are popular local attraction.
