Ludlow is a market town in the English county of Shropshire. It is situated on a hill close to the Welsh border and in the Welsh Marches, on a bend of the River Teme, where it meets the River Corve. The substantial remains of Ludlow Castle dominates the town from the top of the hill, beside the old market place, while the streets of the medieval walled town wind down towards the rivers. The town enjoys a very pretty and sheltered location by the Clee Hills, and boasts nearly 500 listed buildings.
Ludlow's close proximity to the Welsh, Shropshire and Herefordshire borders, along with its rich history and scenery, makes it a very popular place for visitors, and particularly for enthusiasts of folk stories, as several originated here, including Fulk FitzWarin, and the story of Marion de la Bruyere, the ghost of whom is still said to haunt the castle's turrets.
