The port and town of Par in the scenic county of Cornwall Par was developed as a mineral port by Joseph Treffry during the early 19th century and it became a busy and successful centre for trade. With new industries emerging around the harbour, Par prospered and the landscape was changed with wharves, store yards, a smelting plant, ship repair facilities and the bustle of an increased population. Shipbuilding was a major industry and it was in Par that schooners were built for the Newfoundland trade.
Although the bustle of the old Par has passed, the town is popular with visitors who come for the excellent attractions including the Mid-Cornwall Galleries that is the largest gallery of contemporary arts and crafts in the West Country and the nearby Eden Project. With ample amenities and shops, eateries and pubs both in town and locally, Par is also the ideal destination for those who enjoy the countryside and coast that offer spectacular scenery and walks.
