The large village of Pulborough in the charming county of West Sussex lies on the
River Arun, near where it meets the River Rother in an area of diverse natural scenery within the South Downs National Park. The Romans used to cross the river here and the Saxons built a stone bridge across it leading to further development of the area. Pulborough became an important watering and overnight stop for cattle drovers. The remains of a castle here attest to the importance of the village; an earthwork motte and bailey construction, Pulborough Castle was built in a prominent position overlooking the river junction of the Rother and Arun.
Pulborough is a large attractive village with lovely Georgian buildings, ample amenities, pubs, eateries, shops and outstanding surrounding countryside. The natural beauty of the River Arun attracts nature lovers and walkers and bird-watchers come to enjoy the RSPB Pulborough Brooks Nature Reserve. The flooding in the winter of the Arun Valley is spectacular and a popular attraction at the Reserve.
