The small town of Rochford in the county of Essex, lies on the River Roach and was the place where Henry IV was married in 1380. The wedding took place at a hall here that is now part of the golf course site. Royalty is connected to Rochford again in 1525 when the notorious Henry VIII gave the title Viscount Rochford to Thomas Boleyn and Rochford Hall became the home of Henry’s mistress, Mary Boleyn. The wars have left their scars on Rochford as its airport was targeted. Built in 1914, Southend Airport was a fighter station during World War I and despite closing in 1920, was used again in World War II when it was requisitioned by the Air ministry as a fighter airfield
