Ross-on-Wye is a small market town in southeastern Herefordshire, England. It is occupies a pretty location on the River Wye, and at the northern edge of the Forest of Dean. The town has been a popular tourist destination since the Romantic period, when the Victorians would come to tour the scenic and historic river. The town is known for its range of independent shops, attractive streets and bustling market square and market hall, which holds weekly Thursday and Saturday markets. The town centre also provides a landscaped public park, named The Prospect for its view of the horseshoe bend in the River Wye and of the Black Mountains.
Attractions in the area include Wilton Castle, How Caple Court Gardens, Goodrich Castle, International Centre for Birds of Prey, Wye Valley Shipley Gardens, Great Western Railway Museum (Coleford), and the Clearwell Caves Ancient Iron Mines.
