The quiet seaside resort town of Seaford in the county of East Sussex lies in picturesque scenery at the foot of the South Downs, a range of hills stretching from Winchester to Eastbourne. Seaford has a history that spans periods of prosperity and misfortune; in the Middle Ages, Seaford was a major port serving Southern England until coastal sedimentation silted up its harbour and French pirates made raids; burning down the town several times between 1350 and 1550. By the 19th century with the coming of the railways, Seaford again found some prosperity as a small seaside resort town.
Seaford is a charming resort with a lovely town centre and is set amidst outstanding, diverse countryside. Good shopping, plenty of eateries and pubs as well as great transport links to larger nearby towns, gives the visitor all they could want. Walkers and nature lovers flock to enjoy the hill walks of the South Downs and the Seven Sisters Country Park and for those with an interest in the rock formations, there’s the famous Long Man of Wilmington, a massive feature carved out in the rocks.
