Wellingborough is a market town in the county of Northamptonshire that is known for its carnival and recognisable as home to the ‘The Three Silver Ladies’ sculptures. The art is found on the Harrowden Road and depicts local Roman history, the river, and the townspeople working together. When planning a visit to Wellingborough, it is well worth checking if you can be there during the colourful, annual Wellingborough Carnival.
Started back in 1908 with the intent of raising funds for Wellingborough Cottage Hospital, the Carnival was first called the 'Hospital Parade Day'. It continued to be the source of revenue for the hospital until the NHS was founded in 1948. A great deal of hard work goes into preparing for the Carnival parade with many groups making costumes and decorating their floats. For those who enjoy history, Wellingborough offers some lovely historic buildings. Among the many listed buildings here is in Wellingborough is the Grade II listed railway station as well as the 600 year old Grade I listed steeple that is all that remains of All Hallows Church.
