Darwen is a market town close to Blackburn in Lancashire, England. The town is situated on the Lancashire moors and extends to the West Pennine Moors, and along the A666 road, with Blackburn to the north and Bolton to the south. The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and evidence of a Roman Road was present on an Ordinance Map of the area. Darwen is typical of the towns and villages of Lancashire in that it grew as a Mill Town during the Industrial Revolution and many of its buildings were built from local stone during the boom years, leaving a very charming landscape.
Music is very important to this town, which has a brass band, and it has its own radio station "107 The Bee". Darwen also hosts a free annual music festival "Darwen Live", which is very popular draw in the region. The event lasts for two days and occurs on the second bank holiday of may each year, featuring artists such as The Buzzcocks and China Crisis.
